A global gratitude movement
What is Day of Gratitude?
Day of Gratitude is a positive movement intended to help us live better lives and work with each other much more collaboratively and peacefully. It is intended to help us become more aware that we are all connected, and we are all in this together. Everyone adds value to their communities in their own unique ways, and it takes all of us doing whatever we do for our communities to thrive. We all matter.
Day of Gratitude shines a light on the contributions that people make to our communities through the work that they do.
We invite you to follow us on Facebook and check out our web page for more details about what Day of Gratitude is and how you can get involved. This is the sort of thing that will BENEFIT EVERYONE who participates, so be sure to share this information with your friends, family and co-workers.
We also invite and encourage you to start looking for people in your community to appreciate, and tell them so. Take a pic and share it on Facebook so that the whole world can appreciate them and so they too can benefit from feeling the gratitude.
Gratitude changes everything, and we can’t wait for you to experience it too.

HOW DO WE SHOW OUR GRATITUDE?
Social Media – We look for people to appreciate in our communities who are “on the job.” When we encounter someone doing their job, we express our appreciation for what they do and their contributions to the community. To help spread the gratitude and the Movement, we also take pictures of the people we’re appreciating and share them through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Local Events – Each month, we high-light a particular role in our communities – such as teachers, truck drivers, postal carriers, healthcare workers, sanitation workers, construction workers, administrators, computer programmers, legislators, fire fighters, and so on – and we share our appreciation through Appreciation “Demonstrations” – as well as other activities.
YOU JUST GOT THANKED!

HOW CAN YOU JOIN THE GRATITUDE MOVEMENT?
There are lots of ways to participate in this Global Gratitude Movement:
- Join us at a local Appreciation Demonstration. Find a Demonstration near you.
- Organize an Appreciation Demonstration of your own. Get together with a group from church, work or other organization and organize your own Appreciation Demonstration.
What are Appreciation Demonstrations?
Appreciation Demonstrations are groups of co-workers, friends, family and community members who gather together on Day of Gratitude to wave signs and banners that say such things as “Thank you,” and “We appreciate you.”
Appreciation Demonstrations are 1 to 2 hours long, and are usually held on sidewalks at high visibility locations or outside buildings and facilities where the people we are appreciating that month work.
An Appreciation Demonstration might also be a group of people at their office or church or club creating their own message of gratitude in their own locations and sharing it with the rest of the world through Social Media. Connect and share with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Other ways you can participate in Day of Gratitude:
- Participate in “You Just Got Thanked!” Look for people in your community on the job and thank them for the work that they do. Ask them if you can take their picture to post it to Day of Gratitude’s Facebook page and tell them, “You just got thanked!” Think about the people you see in your day-to-day…store cashiers, healthcare providers, utility workers, maintenance and building professionals, police officers, etc.
- If you own a business, consider offering a discount or special treat as a token of your appreciation,
- If you’re an artist, consider an artistic display or demonstration of your appreciation,
- If you are a school teacher, consider sharing information with your students about the particular group we are recognizing that month and take a picture of your students expressing their appreciation in their own unique way,
- Write “Thank You” cards to people in the professions we are celebrating,
- Come up with your own way to show your gratitude,
- And definitely share your pictures and videos of you, your friends, family and co-workers expressing your gratitude and appreciation for whomever we are celebrating that month.

Gratitude Changes Everything
Why a Day of Gratitude
GRATITUDE UNIFIES US
The inspiration behind Day of Gratitude is the current trend of anger, blame, violence, and disunity prevalent in communities. Our leaders and our headlines are fear-based and problem-focused. This constant barrage of negativity is toxic to our well-being, and it is counter-productive to what we really want – peace, solutions, respect, connection, prosperity. What we focus on expands, whether it is positive or negative.
Most of us are very good people, and we have very good intentions. Most of us are uplifters; we want to do things that help others thrive; we want to do things that help us thrive as well.
In the workplace, a company is successful when all of its employees are performing to the best of their abilities. It takes all of them adding value in their own particular roles and functions for the organization to do well.
Communities are exactly the same. We ALL have value, and we ALL contribute to our communities through the work that we do. The well-being of our communities is dependent upon all of us understanding the value that each person adds, recognizing that value and then working together – not against each other – to move beyond our current problems.
We’re all in this together, and it’s time for us to truly “get” this.
WE CAN CHANGE! We can change the way we think. Instead of focusing on our problems and making them even bigger, we can change our approach to one of cooperation, respect and solution orientation. With a different approach, we can experience faster resolutions and more peaceful interactions.
Day of Gratitude is one way to create this shift. As a Global Gratitude Movement, Day of Gratitude engages individuals and organizations around the world to recognize and publicly appreciate the contributions that we make to our communities through the work that we do. Like the Butterfly Effect, the resulting Gratitude Effect will enrich individual lives and their communities around the world.
